The ecoregion of caribbean colombia has 1600 km coast and inside the 500 km2 sea waters live together many species of fish, crustacean and mollusc. The culture of this latin communities is assorted in detail, because it changes depending on its landscape around: coast cities ( Barranquilla, Santa Marta, Cartagena ), towns near Magdalena river, tropical islands (San Andres and Providencia), dry territory like Guajira Desert, high mountain with snow peaks (Sierra Nevada) or large territories of sabana (sucre, cordoba).

Nuestra ecoregion es tan rica y sus paisajes tan distintos, que esto ha impactado en lo variado en detalle de la denominada “cultura costena”.

Ecology of Spirit. Is not Creation a symbiotic relationship, much as is found in Nature?

i am Sirius asked:

Sym=”with” & biosis=living (Greek)…symbiosis is the mutual interdependence of all living things. The parts depend on one another and together form the whole. If any part or aspect is removed, traumatized, or dis-eased, an imbalance happens and the whole suffers. Are we not, by analogy, also interdependent and symbiotically connected in the One? Then is it not crucial to awaken to the ecology of our soul/spirit and realize that we are not “separate” beings, isolated from others and from the whole? Interdependency is inherent within all of Creation; not one single organism functions alone, sovereign unto itself. Eco=household & logos=knowledge (Greek). We speak of the Ecology of Gaia, yet do not see the inner ecology that requires as much attention, for its health and balance, to be aligned and congruent with the whole. Do you “take care” of your inner dwellingplace with the same attention you give to your outer environment, knowing they are one and the same, symbiotically One?

Is zoology and “ecology, behavior, and evolution” the same?

Silvia M asked:

I want to major in zoology, but it seems schools in San Diego don’t specifically have a zoology major.

“ecology, behavior, and evolution”: This major includes the fields of population biology, ecology, conservation biology, animal behavior, population genetics, biogeography, and evolution. These fields have in common a focus on evolutionary processes and whole organisms in relation to each other and to their environments.

I was wondering if it can defined as the same? I see that I need a lot of physics classes and chem. so I question a bit. I wanted to know from those in the field could inform me because the college councilors have just told me to take this course.

You would think being in San Diego we would have more Zoology courses.

Thanks for any help I receive.
I did look for animal studies, but they did not have a section. Like I said, they mainly have biology majors with sub divisions, so I wanted to see if anyone from UCSD or someone in the field could point me in the right direction/ know if they are a similar major.

crystal nw asked:

I have to write a paper on ecology in terms of population growth and human activites on the environment. I have to be sure to mention the examination of the dynamics of population growth on the environment, explanation of the concept of regulation of population growth through community interactions and the evaluation of the effects of human activites on ecosystems and the biosphere. I do not care for science at all. I have done research but am still confused and do not know where to even begin my paper or what to include in it. It needs to be 700-1,050 words and sound scientific. Any pointers, information, topics, explanations, etc. Help me please.

Daniel Pinchbeck and Alice Klein discuss consciousness, ecology and time. Recorded on June 16th, 2007 at the opening of Divine Light in Toronto, Canada, the talk explores planetary changes and the practical means individuals can engage in order to develop a stronger, healthier world.

Daniel Pinchbeck is the author of 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl (Tarcher/Penguin, 2006) and Breaking Open the Head (Broadway Books, 2002). He is Editorial Director of Reality Sandwich.

Alice Klein is co-founder, editor and CEO of Toronto’s NOW Magazine, a free alternative news and entertainment weekly. As an accomplished writer and passionate observer of social movements, Klein has covered a breadth of subjects ranging from Canada and the global economy to behind the scenes at the Dalai Lama’s Kalachakra initiation. As an original thinker, her comfort zone is writing on the connections between politics, economics, and the archetypal.

Her film “Call of the Hummingbird” was screened prior to the discussion.

Divine Light is a composition by Scott Peterson. It is an abstraction of the harmony of the spheres, a musical universe expanding infinity possibilities and interactions; a labyrinth. A fun and futuristic sound-sculpture celebrating illumination and the human spirit.

Daphne Y asked:

My teacher asked for our class to come up with a list of mainstream music/movies, etcetc that has to do with environmental issues, such as global warming and pollution and things like that. I’ve thought of a couple, like An Inconvenient Truth, Captain Planet, Big Yellow Taxi, Planet Earth. Can you give some more examples?

Thanks!
