Ecology Question. What does this mean?

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009
Kai asked:

I cannot understand this passage in my school book. Could someone more knowledgeable perhaps put this into laymans terms for me or simply describe what you consider this to mean?. I would be so grateful! Thank You. The passage I am caught up on reads:

“The scientific image of hunting and gathering, as a naturally prescribed course of fitness-maximisation, is as illusory as the image that science has of its own enterprise, as a monument to the freedom and pre-eminence of human reason. Far from confronting one another across the boundary of nature, both the people who call themselves scientists and the people whom scientists call hunter-gatherers are fellow passengers in this world of ours, who carry on the business of life and, in so doing, develop their capacities and aspirations, within a continuing history of involvement with both human and non-human components of their environments. If we are to develop a thoroughgoing ecological understanding of how real people relate to these environments, and of the sensitivity and skill with which they do so, it is imperative to take this condition of involvement as our point of departure. “

im really sorry for asking for answers to an assignment but i lost ALL my notes and handouts about this and its an online assignment due today, its only three questions to prep me for something else im not sure what i’ve been away from school these past 2 days but it’s questions about DDT please can anyone help me?

1. In your own words, explain what DDT is.
2. What type of animal tissue does DDT dissolve (and become stored) in?
3. How does DDT enter aquatic environments?

for number two i wrote what i think i remember from a class discussion
i wrote that its stored in fatty-tissues

HELP! I have to write a paper on ecology?

Ecology Environment
crystal nw asked:

I have to write a paper on ecology in terms of population growth and human activites on the environment. I have to be sure to mention the examination of the dynamics of population growth on the environment, explanation of the concept of regulation of population growth through community interactions and the evaluation of the effects of human activites on ecosystems and the biosphere. I do not care for science at all. I have done research but am still confused and do not know where to even begin my paper or what to include in it. It needs to be 700-1,050 words and sound scientific. Any pointers, information, topics, explanations, etc. Help me please.
