Matt asked:

I want to travel to study animals.
Or even just do photography. Like for magazines.
Or videos for science programs or documentaries.

What careers should I consider?
And what education would I need?

I’m thinking zoology/biology or ecology. And photography, journalism, or some type of visual media.

What do you think?

Is zoology and “ecology, behavior, and evolution” the same?

Silvia M asked:

I want to major in zoology, but it seems schools in San Diego don’t specifically have a zoology major.

“ecology, behavior, and evolution”: This major includes the fields of population biology, ecology, conservation biology, animal behavior, population genetics, biogeography, and evolution. These fields have in common a focus on evolutionary processes and whole organisms in relation to each other and to their environments.

I was wondering if it can defined as the same? I see that I need a lot of physics classes and chem. so I question a bit. I wanted to know from those in the field could inform me because the college councilors have just told me to take this course.

You would think being in San Diego we would have more Zoology courses.

Thanks for any help I receive.
I did look for animal studies, but they did not have a section. Like I said, they mainly have biology majors with sub divisions, so I wanted to see if anyone from UCSD or someone in the field could point me in the right direction/ know if they are a similar major.

JESUS Z asked:

So far I only know that they are useful because they are “prey animals”that is they serve as a food source for other animals. I also read that they are pests to farmers, but
“what positive influence do they have on the environment or the ecology?

There is so many different courses focusing on animals I dont know exactly which one I should take if I want to study animals in their natural environment. There is so many to pick from: Zoology, Environmental and Recourse Economics and Management, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, and Wildlife Ecology.
