I’m doing a project in a Human Geography course I am taking and wanted more clarification from those who are more familiar with the term. Please, no “Folk group’s close relationship with the physical environment,” just examples and a better description.

It is the knowledge of the environment that is attained through a (usually indigenous) culture’s close relationship with their physical environment and is passed down through generations in a relatively informal manner. The obvious parallel is folk medicine – a knowledge of natural remedies, use of herbal treatment, etc, that is passed down in “primitive” cultures. Folk ecology is of interest because it represents a kind of intuitive knowledge of the environment and how to live within it.
