Help with ecology homework?

The Con asked:


I don’t want you guys to think I want you do to my hw so I actually tried to answer the questions.

1) Describe the major abiotic factors that produce Earth’s main climate zone?
-I honestly have no idea.

2) What is the difference between and organisms habitat and its niche?
-A habitat is where an organism lives while a niche is how it interacts with its environment.

3) What type of succession occurs after lava from a volcanic eruption covers an area?
-Secondary.

4) Why are plants generally few and far between in a desert?
-No idea.

5) What are plankton? Name two types of plankton.
-Plankton are organisms that can’t swim against the tide (?)
Two types: Zooplankton, Phytoplankton

    1. This question is a bit vague. sorry
    2. correct
    3. Primary and then secondary
    4. A species distribution is limited by resources and to a degree, inter and intra specific competition for those resources. water is the limiting factor in a desert.
    5. Plankton are baby aquatic organisms. Zooplankton (animals) Pytoplankton (plants). Not all aquatic organisms have a planktonic stage though.

    1) The two primary factors are temperature (especially in colder areas) and water availability.

    2 & 3) Right on.

    4) See the answer to #1. There isn’t enough water to support many and the ones that are there are adapted in some way to survive on what is there.

    5) Right, but I’d use “current”, rather than “tide”.
